If the first half of league play is any indication of what’s to come, the UCC women’s basketball team just might be in pretty good shape heading into the Northwest Athletic Conference tournament.

The Riverhawks (19-2 overall, 6-0 league) destroyed the Saints on the glass, with a 61-35 rebounding advantage, that led to a 65-49 defeat of the Mt. Hood Saints (4-17, 0-6).

Umpqua had three players with double figures in boards, and as a team pulled in 22 offensive rebounds, that led to 14 second chance points.

Anna Mumm had a double-double with 15 points and 15 boards, while Ashli Payne contributed a double-double as well.

Payne finished with a team-high 16 points to go along with her 11 rebounds and five assists. Romanalyn Inocencio added a team high eight assists.

Madison Pape and Breannie Robinson both had solid games off the bench. Pape finished with 11 points and four steals, while Robinson added four points and 12 rebounds.

UCC’s victory marked the completion of the first half of league play in the NWAC south region. Umpqua is 6-0 in league play, and is the No. 1 ranked team in the NWAC.

The Riverhawks have five wins on the season versus the top eight teams in the NWAC. Umpqua has defeated defending champion Columbia Basin (ranked 6), Lower Columbia (ranked 4), Bellevue (ranked 5) and league rival the Lane Titans twice (ranked 7).

All victories, aside from the January 14, 69-61 home win versus Lane, have been won on neutral courts.

That kind of on court success has placed the ’Hawks atop the NWAC team leaders in a variety of statistical categories. As a team, UCC is the top team in average rebounds per game at 49.24.

They also rank second in average assists per game, 18.10, and second in points scored per game, with 79.95. The Riverhawks’ next game is February 11, versus No. 7 ranked Lane Community College.
